Veda Park Sappington

January 27, 1937 — February 16, 2018

Veda Park Sappington, of West Siloam Springs, OK, passed away at the age of 81 on Friday, February 16, 2018 at Sequoyah Manor in Sallisaw, OK.

Veda was born in a cabin near Fiddler’s Bend on Flint Creek in Flint, OK on January 27, 1937.  She was the daughter of Thomas Kirkland and Virgie Mason Park. She was an excellent cook and loved to bake.  She managed several local restaurants with her sister, Leota, and was known by many as the sassy cook.  The sister duo began their restaurants adventures at a small restaurant in downtown Siloam Springs. This led to other amazing restaurants such as the Eastgate Café, Wagon Wheel, a restaurant in Decatur, Hickory House, and the Youree Café.

She was a carefree, adventurous, extraordinary mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to a large loving family.  Veda grew up at Flint and attended Colcord High School. She excelled at sports and shared that love with her grandkids.  Her tenacity and spunk mixed with her orneriness kept them eager to be in her presence.

Veda is survived by five children, Sherri Williams and husband Ray of Westville, OK; Sandy Cox of Henryetta, OK; John Sappington and wife Marla of Siloam Springs, AR; Jodi Smith and husband Michael of South Greasy, OK; and Jimmy Mitchell and wife Melisa of West Siloam Springs, OK; her twin sister, Vada Cross of Siloam Springs, AR; 18 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Kirkland and Virgie Mason Park; one brother, Duane Park; two sisters, Wanda Keating and Leota Kendrick; and one son, Jerry Wayne.

Visitation will be held at the Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home on Monday, February 19, 2018 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm.
