Ruth Mitchell

Ruth Mitchell, 98, of Fayetteville, Arkansas passed away at her home on Friday, February 21, 2025, surrounded by her family.

Ruth was born on June 5, 1926, in Wynona, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Roosevelt “Bud” Young and Okle Erp Young. She married Joseph Robert Mitchell on March 5, 1947, in Spade, Texas. He preceded her in death in 2013. Ruth graduated business college in 1946 and worked in retail for most of her life including F. W. Woolworth for 23 years before retiring as a store manager in 1985. After moving to Arkansas, she worked for Food for Less for 12 years.

Over the years Ruth was very dedicated to her Christian walk, attending several churches in the area including Vaughn Presbyterian Church, Gravette First Christian Church, Heritage Baptist Church in Gravette and Vertical Community Church in Fayetteville. She enjoyed quilting, cooking, baking, going fishing, gardening and playing games with her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband; one great-grandson Titus Grigg; one brother, Marshall Young; and four sisters, Christine Bridges, Paulene Bridges, Bobbie Pierson, and Mary Brice.

She is survived by three daughters, Gean Munger and husband Dave of Loveland, Colorado, Judy Stone of Fayetteville, Arkansas and Joann Mitchell and husband Terry of Centerton, Arkansas; one sister, Rosie Hall of Lubbock, Texas; seven grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; along with many other family members and friends.

Visitation will be held at Backstrom Pyeatte Funeral Home in Springdale, Arkansas on Thursday, February 27, 2025, from 5pm-7pm.

Funeral Service will be held at the Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Chapel on Friday, February 28, 2025, at 11am. Burial and committal service will be held at the Barron Cemetery in Vaughn, Arkansas on Friday, February 28, 2025 at 1:15pm.
