Melvin Royce Byers, 91, of Siloam Springs, Arkansas passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at the Siloam Springs Regional Hospital.
Melvin was born September 9, 1932 in Big Spring, Texas to JT Byers and Martha Crews-Byers. He joined the United States Navy after high school and served honorably as a frogman on Underwater Demolition Team 1 in the Korean War from 1950 to 1953. On September 4, 1961, he married the love of his life, Shirley. They shared 58 loving, memorable years until her passing in 2020. He was a hard worker throughout his life and completed many construction jobs around the Siloam Springs area. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching sports, and playing golf.
He is survived by his son, Michael Byers of Siloam Springs, Arkansas; daughter, Dana Fletcher and husband, David of Colcord, Oklahoma; granddaughter, Casey Fletcher; a host of nieces and nephews; and many other loved ones.
He is preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife; 2 brothers; 2 sisters; and grandson, Christopher Fletcher.
The family will gather for the inurnment and Military Honors at 2:00pm on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Siloam Springs, Arkansas.
The arrangements were entrusted to Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home of Siloam Springs, Arkansas.
