Huamao "Mao" Her

Huamao "Mao" Her aged 73, of Colcord, Oklahoma, departed this life peacefully on March 28, 2024. Born on October 12, 1950 in Xien Kho, Houaphan, Laos, to the late Chu Blong Her and Ka Xiong. She emerged as the beacon of tenderness, resilience, and love who soul was cherished and touched every facet of her life.

Mao was a kind, independent, and loving individual. She was known for her creativity, sense of humor, and generosity. Mao took pride in her role as a mother, daughter, grandmother, great grandmother and was a source of strength and support for her family. She embodied the virtues of compassion, self-reliance, and endearment to all. A devoted matriarch, Mao stood as a pillar within her family, providing unwavering support and encouragement.

Her years of honorable service as a military nurse during the Vietnam War stand as a testament to her altruistic spirit and profound commitment to the welfare of others. 

Mao's passions encompassed the joys of farming, exploring new destinations, creating culinary delights, and expressing her love through sewing. She found comfort and joy in the care of her farm animals and cherished canine companions. 

The memory of Mao will be cherished by her devoted husband, Meng Wang Vang, beloved sons, Rwg Vang and wife Blia Yang Vang, Tswj Ntug Vang and wife Chee Xiong, Peev Feem Vang and wife Paj Yeeb Vue, Chu Feev Vang, Tswb Tshoj Vang, and Sao Pao Vang and wife Maiv Hlau Thor; adored daughters, Bay Bao Vang and husband Neng Vam Yang, Nkauj Tshav Ntuj Vang and husband Zoov Txhiaj Yang, Nkauj Nag Lo Vue and husband Ger Lo Vue, Ntxheesua Her and husband Bradley Ethridge, and Suabyee Her-nandez and husband Ociel Hernandez. 

Her wonderful 28 grandchildren.

With the fourth generation of 2 great grandchildren.

Preceding her in passage were her father Chu Blong Her, mother Ka Xiong, grandparents Tooj Va Her, and siblings brother Ntsheb Her and sister Sw Her.

Funeral services to honor the life of Huamao Her will be a traditional Hmong funeral service and will be conducted at Backstorm Pyeatte Funeral Home, located at 1401 E Main St, Siloam Springs, AR 72761. Doors will be open at 8 am - 10 pm May 3rd, 4th, 5th, and burial on the 6th, 2024. 

We welcome family and friends to gather in a solemn tribute to honor a life well-lived and to bid a loving farewell to a remarkable woman.

We would like to thank Dr. Meehan and his team at Internal Medicine, also Dr. Yoo and Dr. Beck and their team at Highland Oncology, and all of the staffing at Good Shepherd Hospice for helping us through and giving us so much support during this hardship. There are no words to describe how appreciative we are, just know we are happy to have gained new families and friends. 

Huamao’s journey from Laos to the heart of Oklahoma, has exemplified strength and grace. She leaves behind a legacy of love, tradition and family unity that will be remembered by all who knew her.
