Derl Howerton, 74, of Elm Springs, Arkansas passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2022.
Derl was born on November 11, 1947, in Compton, Arkansas. He was a son of Cecil Troy Howerton and Willard Minerva Cline Howerton. He married Kathy Lynn Suratt on April 7, 1984, in Springdale. Derl attended Barber College in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and after a short period owned and operated the King’s Den Barber Shop for a total of 48 years that was first located on Emma St. in Springdale, which he later relocated to a shop on South 48th St. He became the Music Minister for Fellowship Baptist Church in 1999-2005, and then Berean Baptist Church in 2006-present, where he was very active, including doing any maintenance that needed done. Derl loved working and restoring old classic cars, as well as fixing anything else that others thought could not be repaired. He assisted his wife Kathy in her Interior Design Business with delivery, set up and assembly of anything she needed. Derl loved a good bargain and spent many hours combing through Craigslist seeing what was available regardless of how many he already owned, or who he thought needed something. He served with Honor in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Melvin Howerton.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Kathy Howerton of the home; two sons, John Michael Howerton of Elm Springs and Aaron Paul Howerton of Rogers; one daughter Sarah Michelle Berrios and Husband Michael of Springdale; two brothers, Milford Howerton of Clyde, Ohio, and Don Howerton of Springdale; one sister, Sharon Rose of Hiwasse, Arkansas; six grandchildren, Carter Berrios, Xander Berrios, Aria Berrios, Graham Price, Hudson Price and Zeppelyn Howerton; along with many other family members and friends.
Visitation for Derl will be held on Sunday, May 15, 2022 from 5-7 p.m..
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, May 16, 2022 at 2 p.m. at Backstrom Pyeatte with Brother Larry Banks officiating. Burial will be in the Elm Springs Cemetery in Elm Springs, Arkansas.
