Coleta Barnes, 81, passed away Tuesday morning, January 9, 2018 at The Maples Living Center in Springdale, Arkansas.
Coleta was born on August 1, 1936 in Colcord, Oklahoma to Riley and Willa Bayless. She enjoyed watching NASCAR racing, learning information about her genealogy, growing tomato plants, drinking black and thick coffee, baking her famous cathead biscuits, snacking on crackers and milk, and drinking a good ole fashion root beer float. Coleta was known as “The Momma” to everyone that knew her, whether it was family or just a friend that she would run into around town.
She is survived by her son, Shannon Ames and wife, Shelley of Colcord, OK; 2 daughters, Leathia “Colleen” Gunter of Westville, OK and Valleri Petty of Colcord, OK; 1 sister, Montez Cochran of Westville, OK; 1 step-sister, Eleanor Mitchell of Liberty Hills, TX; 1 step-brother, Ron Gathers of Tuscan, CA; 4 grandchildren, Brandi Davis, Nick Ames, Joe Hall, and Josh Petty; 3 great grandchildren, Trista Sumter, Madyson Davis, and Cash Ames; 2 nieces, Heather Gibson and Leah Buck; 2 nephews, Brandon Cochran and Kylie Cochran; and many other loved ones and friends.
